Enrollment

Bache-Martin is one of the Philadelphia School District Early Childhood Education program locations. Families interested in Pre-K should visit the Office of Early Childhood Education for information regarding enrolling your pre-K child in school, as this cannot be done at the school. 

Enrollment Requirements:

• Child and family must be residents of Philadelphia

• Free program for families who meet the eligibility requirements, up to the maximum funded capacity (Families applying for a Head Start location must meet the Head Start income guidelines; families applying for a Bright Futures location must meet the Bright Futures/Pre-K Counts income guidelines.  There are no income requirements for PHL (PHILLY) prek.)

• Programs enroll three and four year olds (entering children must be three years old by September 1), and five year olds must be five years old after September 1)

Pick up an application at 440 North Broad Street or download an application at the Early Childhood Education Program website

Make sure you bring copies of the following documents:

• Proof of child’s date of birth (Birth Certificate)

• Documentation of family income (such as paystubs, tax forms, notarized statements)

• Proof of TANF cash (DPW) (if applicable)

• SNAP/food stamps, medical assistance (if applicable)

• Proof of Philadelphia residency

• Child’s health insurance card

• Physical (health assessment) and Immunizations

• Completed dental exam form (signed and stamped by dental office)

• Picture ID of parent /guardian

Curriculum:

The School District of Philadelphia has designed and implemented a developmentally appropriate Core Curriculum in literacy, math, science, social studies, and social emotional learning for all our preschool programs, which meets Pennsylvania State Standards for Pre-Kindergarten. This curriculum also defines best teaching practices and includes methods and materials that respect the rich cultural heritages and diverse learning styles of all our children.

Enrollment Process

To determine if you live within the Bache-Martin catchment area, please visit the Philadelphia School District's School Finder, and enter your address. 

If you are inside the Bache-Martin Catchment:

To enroll your child at Bache-Martin, you must bring the following information to the Main Office at Bache Martin.

• Child's name

• Parent/Guardian ID (Current Driver’s License/ Non-Driver’s License, Federal, State or Municipal employment photo identification, or Passport)

• Child's current immunization record

• ONE Document verifying child's birth date(click here for document options)

• TWO proofs of residency (Mortgage, deed, tax statement, for additional ways to prove residency, click here)

Registration begins in January and goes through May for the upcoming school year. For hours and days, please call the main office. 

Outside of the Bache-Martin Catchment:

Families living outside the official catchment area should visit the School District of Philadelphia's Office of Student Placement website for information about how to apply to Bache-Martin. The school selection process is now completely online, and takes place the fall BEFORE your child will be starting school.

Uniform Policy

Grades 5- 8 Dress Code:

1. Bottoms

   • Any color

   •  No holes or rips

   • Fingertip length

2. Tops (Outer Layer)

   • Solid navy blue top OR

   •  Bache-Martin branded top (shirts can be purchased from the school this August)

   • Must cover midriff (no crop tops or tied shirts)

3. Shoes

   • Close toe with backs

4. Other

   • No sunglasses or hoodies up

A Balanced Education

At Bache-Martin we strive to provide a balanced education to help nurture well prepared students. ​

Bache-Martin has one of the most comprehensive middle school music programs as well as access to science and technology, to give our students a full STEAM education. 

Our faculty and students explore the interconnections between Science, Math, Arts, Music, Literature and the Humanities -- giving our students a solid foundation that includes critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Science & Technology

At Bache-Martin we know that STEM (Science, Technology and Math) 

are important for our future. That is why our school offers 

not only Science, but also Math Enrichment, and STEM. 

Our goal is to inspire our students, feed their curiosity, 

and foster a culture of innovation, and joy for 

learning, that they will take wherever they may to in the future. To help

us achieve our goals, our school features:

Literature & Humanities 

Many schools focus on the Arts and Sciences alone; 

but at Bache-Martin we know it is also important

 for our students to be able to communicate ideas efficiently. 

Our standards-Aligned Curriculum is delivered through various 

novels and non-fiction text.  Social-emotional learning connections 

are infused throughout the day. Outside partnerships help them 

strengthen higher-order reading skill development. Increased integration of 

technology through extension of learning, and needed remediation of skills. 

Music

Our Music Program includes separate vocal, string, 

percussion, and wind instruments classes led by Ms. Fiero, Mr. Hoke and Ms. Taylor.

Our mission is to promote a greater respect, and appreciation, for all types of music 

by listening to, performing for, and sharing with others of all cultures​.

Visual Arts

We believe Art is a great way of balancing our 

students' education. Our school is lucky to be within 

walking distance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art 

and the Barnes Foundation. This proximity allow us 

not only to have walking fieldtrips there, but also partnerships! 

Overall, our encouragement for a balanced STEAM education will create a foundation for their future success as artists, doctors, engineers, teachers, scientists, and anything they set their mind on for their futures.
